Biopsia endometrial
This is a test used to evaluate the lining of the uterus (womb). It is used to see if there are any problems that can lead to irregular bleeding in women who are still menstruating or postmenopausal bleeding in women who should no longer be menstruating.
This test can also be used in women who are trying to become pregnant to check their hormone status. In this case, the endometrial biopsy is usually done just before your next period is expected (or 10-13 days after ovulation).
The vagina and cervix (mouth of the womb) are cleansed with a disinfectant (please let us know if you are allergic to iodine on your skin). A small instrument is passed through the cervix into the uterus. This is usually done 2 or 3 times. Some cramping usually occurs during the procedure and will last for up to 15 minutes.
Es normal experimentar algo de sangrado y calambres después de este procedimiento. Para aliviar las molestias de la biopsia, nuestros médicos recomiendan tomar ibuprofeno de 600 a 800 mg (3 o 4 comprimidos de 200 mg) 30 minutos antes de su cita. Si lo prefiere, también puede usar Aleve. Puede continuar tomando cualquiera de estos medicamentos después del procedimiento, si es necesario.
