Do you do breast exams at my annual visit?

Yes. A clinical breast exam is part of your well-woman visit, and we're glad to examine you any time something concerns you - you don't need to wait for your annual. If you've noticed a change, call and come in.

Do I need an order from you for a screening mammogram?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the facility - some accept self-referral and some require an order. We order screening mammograms routinely, so text or call us at 903-957-0275 and we'll take care of it and send you somewhere convenient to you.

Question 3

I found a lump in my breast. What should I do?

Accepted Answer

Come in, and don't wait for your annual visit. Most breast lumps turn out to be a cyst, a fibroadenoma, or normal glandular tissue - but a lump should be examined rather than watched at home. We'll examine you and order the imaging the finding calls for, usually a diagnostic mammogram, an ultrasound, or both. If a biopsy is needed, we help you get there quickly.

Can I get genetic testing for breast cancer risk here?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We do high-risk assessment and order genetic testing through our office when your personal or family history supports it - for example, breast cancer diagnosed before age 50, breast cancer in more than one relative on the same side, ovarian or pancreatic cancer in the family, a male relative with breast cancer, or a known inherited mutation. Testing is a decision, not an obligation, and we'll talk it through with you.

Do you do mammograms in your office?

Accepted Answer

No - we don't have on-site imaging, and we don't perform breast surgery. What we do is order your mammogram, ultrasound or MRI at a facility near you, go over the results with you in plain language, and coordinate whatever comes next, including referral to a breast surgeon if one is needed. You won't be left holding a report you can't read.
