What is a hormone imbalance? Hormones are your body's chemical messengers — estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, thyroid, cortisol, insulin, and more. They work together in a careful balance, so when one is too high or too low, it can throw off how you feel all over. A hormone imbalance simply means one or more of these are out of their healthy range, and the ripple effects are very real.
Signs and symptoms. Hormone imbalances show up differently for every woman. Common signs include fatigue that rest doesn't fix, weight gain or trouble losing weight, mood swings, anxiety or low mood, trouble sleeping, brain fog, low sex drive, vaginal dryness, hot flashes or night sweats, irregular or heavy periods, hair thinning, acne, and headaches. If several of these sound familiar, your hormones are worth a closer look.
Common causes. Hormone shifts can come from many places. The most common is the natural transition of perimenopause and menopause, when estrogen and progesterone decline. Others include thyroid problems (an underactive or overactive thyroid), PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome), chronic stress and its effect on cortisol, insulin and blood-sugar issues, certain medications, and life stages like postpartum. Finding which one — or which combination — is driving your symptoms is the key to feeling better.
How we find the cause. We start by really listening to your symptoms and history, then use targeted hormone lab testing to see what's actually going on — rather than guessing. Depending on your picture, that may include thyroid, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and other markers. We interpret your results in the context of how you feel, not just a reference range, and explain everything in plain language.
How hormone imbalance is treated. There is no one-size-fits-all fix — the right plan depends on the cause and your goals. Options range from lifestyle and nutrition support, to treating a specific problem (like thyroid medication or care for PCOS), to hormone replacement therapy when it's appropriate. Hormone replacement comes in many forms — including pills, skin patches, gels and creams, injections, vaginal options, and pellets — and includes human-identical hormones (hormones with the same structure as the ones your body makes, also known as bioidentical hormones or BHRT). No single type or form is right for everyone. For women in perimenopause and menopause, hormone replacement can be a safe and effective option for many when it's guided by a provider and matched to your health history. We'll walk you through all the choices — the different types, forms, benefits, and risks — and help you decide what fits you, without steering you toward any one approach.
Our approach — hormonal balance and wellness. Balancing hormones is at the heart of this practice. That means we don't dismiss symptoms, and we don't hand you a one-size plan. We look at the whole picture, personalize your care, and adjust as your body responds — so you can get back to feeling like yourself.
