Lichen sclerosus is an autoimmune inflammatory skin condition that can affect any part of the body in both men and women. Lichen sclerosus et atrophicus refers to lichen sclerosus of the vulva or perineum, and is most commonly seen during periods of low hormone levels, such as before puberty or after menopause.
Traditional treatment includes topical steroids and/or topical hormones. At G. DeAn Strobel, MD, PA, we take a combined approach using pellet hormone therapy along with MonaLisa Touch laser treatments - offered in partnership with Allure Laser & Medical Spa - for more complete relief. Many patients notice improvement within 6 to 12 weeks, with full symptom control or resolution typically seen within 6 months to a year. Though these treatments are not a "forever cure", the combined approach used has been life-changing for many patients in our experience.
