LICHEN SCLEROSUS

Vulvar skin issues are often more treatable than you'd expect. Traditional treatment includes topical steroids and/or topical hormones that just do not often give the results many patients want. You may be surprised that most of our patients find relief through hormone treatments and/or laser therapy.

Lichen sclerosus is an autoimmune inflammatory skin condition that can affect any part of the body in both men and women. Lichen sclerosus et atrophicus refers to lichen sclerosus of the vulva or perineum, and is most commonly seen during periods of low hormone levels, such as before puberty or after menopause.

DeAn Strobel, MD, PA, we take a combined approach using testosterone therapy (usually in the form of pellets) along with MonaLisa Touch laser treatments - offered in partnership with Allure Laser & Medical Spa - for more complete relief. Many patients notice improvement within 6 to 12 weeks, with full symptom control or resolution typically seen within 6 months to a year. Though these treatments are not a "forever cure", the combined approach used has been life-changing for many patients in our experience.
