ENDOMETRIAL ABLATION
IN SHERMAN, TX —
A NO-HYSTERECTOMY OPTION
FOR HEAVY PERIODS
Stop heavy periods without a hysterectomy
Endometrial ablation is a minimally invasive treatment for heavy periods (heavy menstrual bleeding), offered at G. DeAn Strobel, MD, PA in Sherman, TX. In plain terms, it removes or destroys the thin lining of the uterus so you bleed much less each month, or sometimes not at all. For many women in Sherman, Denison, and across the Texoma and North Texas area, it is a way to stop heavy periods without a hysterectomy. If you are tired of heavy bleeding running your life, our team can help you learn if this treatment for heavy menstrual bleeding is right for you.
What is endometrial ablation? Your uterus has a lining that builds up and sheds each month as your period. When that lining is too thick or your bleeding is very heavy, it can soak through pads or tampons, cause clots, or lead to low iron (anemia). Endometrial ablation uses heat, cold, or other energy to treat that lining so it makes far less blood. There is no cut or incision — your provider reaches the uterus through the vagina and cervix.
Who is it for — and who is it not for? Ablation may be a good choice if you have heavy or long periods that get in the way of daily life and medicine has not helped enough. It is a strong option for women who are done having children. It is not for women who may want to get pregnant in the future — pregnancy after ablation carries serious risks. You will still need reliable birth control afterward, because it is not a form of sterilization. It is also not right for everyone (for example, women past menopause or with certain uterine problems). Your provider will discuss your history first.
What happens and how long is recovery? There are several methods, such as radiofrequency energy or a heated fluid or balloon. Many take only a few minutes. You may feel cramping during and after. Most women go back to normal activities within a day or two. It is normal to have watery, bloody discharge for a few weeks, and cramping may last a few days. Your provider may ask you to avoid tampons, douching, and sex for a short time.
What results should I expect? Results vary. Some women stop having periods, while others have much lighter periods. It can take a few months to see the full change. There are no guarantees, but many women feel real relief. Call or text 903-957-0275 to learn more.
