BONE DENSITY SCAN

ISCD-certified bone density testing for osteoporosis risk

A bone mineral density (BMD) test, commonly performed as a DEXA scan, measures bone strength and helps determine your risk for osteoporosis and fracture. Dr. Strobel is certified by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD) to perform and interpret these scans.

Guidelines recommend bone density testing for all women age 65 and older, and for younger postmenopausal women with risk factors such as low body weight, prior fracture, family history, or certain medications. Medicare and most insurance plans cover screening based on age and risk criteria.

Your results include a T-score, comparing your bone density to that of a healthy young adult, and a Z-score, comparing it to others your age. We may also calculate a FRAX score to estimate your 10-year fracture risk and guide treatment recommendations.
