Infertility Evaluation & Fertility Workup for Women in Sherman, TX

Understanding the infertility evaluation process

Infertility is a frustrating and troubling condition for both partners in a relationship. It's defined as the inability to conceive after one year or more of trying, or the inability to carry a pregnancy to term. The aim of an infertility evaluation is to discover the underlying cause and provide a prognosis for future fertility. Infertility is a shared concern: limiting the evaluation to only one partner is rarely successful, since a male component is involved in up to 40% of cases.

Both partners are asked to have an initial consultation with Dr. Strobel or Dr. Cryer, where you'll be asked about your medical and surgical history, health exposures, sexual development, birth control use, prior pregnancies, and sexual practices. Male partners are typically asked to have a semen analysis, with referral to a urologist or fertility specialist if an abnormality is found. Female partners may be asked to schedule a hysterosalpingogram (HSG) to evaluate the shape of the uterus and confirm the fallopian tubes are open and functioning properly. These infertility tests are often not covered by insurance.

Common causes of infertility are roughly split between female factors (30%), male factors (30%), combined factors (10%), unexplained causes (25%), and other causes (5%). Call or text our office at 903-957-0275 to schedule your initial consultation.
